I decided to make this sweet little trinket box at the behest of my twelve year old step daughter. She had a similar trinket box that had a glass top. She wanted something a little harder to break into. Sure enough, before the day was over, she had broken the glass lid of her other trinket box. The pictures here are not actually complete. Before I ship your unfinished pine trinket box to you, it will also be equipped with a brass hasp closure and a small lock and set of keys. I built this trinket box special for my step daughter with love in my heart. Your little girl is sure to love the intricacies of this quaint trinket box. For instance, when the lid is open, it reveals a small brass chain that prevents the lid from falling backwards. Though practical in design to prevent the hinges from being sprung, it is the shiny delicate brass chain that is sure to catch her eye. In this photo, you can also see the inside workings of the standard spring loaded brass hinges used to connect the lid to the box. Once again, these hinges are practical in design, as they insure that when the lid is closed, it closes securely and with a snug fit. However, it is still that lovely sparkly and shiny brass that is sure to win you that coveted "father of the Year" coffee mug you have been admiring for some time. As with all of our unfinished pine furniture, this piece is left natural so that you can finish it to your own unique taste. Although this cute little trinket box would easily accept paint, I personally will always prefer a light stain and heavy varnish, or just natural wood with a lot of varnish for any pine furniture. This is such a gorgeous and unique species of wood, that I find it a shame to cover it up. Finishing the piece off is a lovely paneled bottom. Though the style will vary, you are sure to end up with something that your daughter or grand daughter is certain to love you for.
